Milan Club pip Maryland to emerge Borivali champions
Mumbai: A determined Milan Club struck good form and emerged champions defeating strong favourtites Maryland Football Club by a fighting 2-1 margin in a absorbing finals of the 5th Borivali Football League (BFL) – 2022, conducted under the auspices of the Mumbai Football Association, and played at the St. Francis D’Assisi HS ground, Borivali.
Strikers Vicky Shah and Ritesh Perambra were bang on target for Milan Club, while Maryland FC reduced the margin through their seasoned defender Hekmat Singh. Vicky was later declared ‘Player of the Final’.
Milan Club, who had knocked out defending champions Fleetfooters Football Club snatching a 4-3 tie-breaker win in the semi-finals, proved that victory was no flash in the pan as they produced another impressive showing against Maryland and came out victorious.
Both teams played an open attacking game and the match witnessed plenty of chances created at either end. Midway through the first half, Milan Club took the lead when Vicky with a perfect left-footed chip sent the ball to the top right corner giving the rival goalkeeper no chance to make a save.
Later, Ritesh headed home the second goal to give Milan Club a comfortable 2-0 lead at the end of the first half.
Maryland did not give up and tried their best to get back into the game but their efforts were blunted by the Milan defenders, who were compact at the back. With less than 10 minutes remaining Maryland finally managed to find the back of the net when Hekmat headed in a cross from the left.
However, Milan Club survived the final couple minutes and did not concede another goal and became champions.
Results – Final: Milan Club 2 (Vicky Shah, Ritesh Perambra) beat Maryland FC 1 (Hekmat Singh).
