The 2 Maharashtra Naval Unit National Cadet Corps, based at Ratnagiri, successfully conducted the Flag-In ceremony of the Most Enterprising Naval Unit (MENU 27) Open Sea Sailing Expedition. After navigating the challenging waters of the Arabian Sea, the contingent safely returned to home port at Ratnagiri, officially completing the expedition on October 31, 2026. Sailing under the campaign banner "Konkan Gyan Tarang", the expedition covered a distance of approximately 250 kilometers along the Konkan coast, voyaging from Ratnagiri to Palshet and back. The arduous journey was executed utilizing three 27-foot DK Whaler boats, relying on tidal navigation, maritime seamanship, and the sustained physical endurance of the crew during extended open-sea boat pulling and sailing operations.
The expedition was anchored by its central theme: "Navigating Knowledge, Anchoring Progress: Sailing Towards the Ideal Konkan". During strategic halts along the coastal route, cadets performed impactful Path Natya and Nukkad Natak (street plays) to engage local populations. Reaching an audience of over 1,000 citizens, the cadets raised awareness on critical societal imperatives, including equal education for all, women's empowerment, and the eradication of child labor. Furthermore, to address modern challenges faced by youth, the cadets delivered a specialized segment titled 'Real vs. Reel' to promote digital well-being and critical thinking among the younger generation. The contingent also successfully executed a demanding 350-foot rappelling descent and completed familiarization training in advanced water sports, including kayaking and parasailing, testing their adaptability and mental fortitude.
The Group Commander NCC Kolhapur Group, during the flag-in ceremony said "The successful completion of a 250-kilometer open sea voyage in DK Whalers is a testament to the exceptional resilience, discipline, and teamwork of our cadets". The operational readiness, high morale, and technical proficiency displayed throughout this rigorous 10-day expedition reflect the highest traditions of the National Cadet Corps.
